Institutions Committee Mission &
Service
The institutions Committee in
North
Palm Beach
County
is responsible bringing AA meetings and AA approved
literature into institutional facilities.
This includes organizing, coordinating, scheduling
and a literature fund raiser (Annual Halloween Big Book Ball). We have one yearly fund raiser to purchase all the
Big Books we can for the year with our ever growing
requested for meetings. “Our
Big Book Ball” which will be held this year on October
28th, 2006 at the Triangle Club,1371
Okeechobee Road, West Palm Beach (tickets are $10.00) live
band and food from
7:00-10;00. This year we will have a silent auction. Contact
Tom K. for ticket or donation items@ 561-827-1504 or Joan H.
@561-744-8046.
Our purpose is to carry the
AA message of recovery to alcoholics in:
>
detoxes
>
psychiatric wards
>
treatment and rehab
centers
>
correctional facilities
>
nursing homes and shelters
The
committee provides training and guidelines for running AA
meetings in facilities as well as coordinating sheriff’s
approval for jail/prison meetings (DOC). We also try to maintain
a temporary contact list to bridge the gap between leaving
such facilities and a successful transition to outside AA
meetings
Members are required to have 6
months sobriety. As
of 2006 we are bringing over 440 meetings per month to these
facilities with an ever growing requests for meetings so new
members are always needed.
Institutions service work is not only important for
carrying the AA message but is also very fulfilling for
those taking in meeting commitments – a great way to
practice Step 12 !!.
We meet at the Triangle Club
on the first Sunday of the month
Mandatory Orientation@ 4:30p.m in Serenity room, which
precludes our general meeting @5:00 p.m
